How to get the most out of your clothes

How to get the most out of your clothes

We all want to get the most out of everything we buy. Following some easy steps to get the most out of your clothing can help reduce waste as well as reduce the amount you're spending! They're just small changes, but if we all do them they can add up.

Buy quality

You know the saying: buy cheap buy twice. I understand that not everyone can afford to buy quality pieces right off the bat, but if you can, you really should. It might take some time to save for them, but these pieces are sure to last you longer - making it better for the environment as well as your purse in the long run!

Washing

So, this might not be so relevant considering we are living through a pandemic and are all cleaning everything more regularly so this might be a post covid tip. But, (normally) you do not need to wash jeans and sweatshirts after every single wear!!! I might sound gross for saying this, but I swear we all wash our clothes too often. I mean, we've all had that pair of jeans that we absolutely loved until 6 months later when they were faded and mis-shapen!

Stain remover

Okay, all that being said about washing, when you do wash - get it right! As sad as this sounds, I swear by the Vanish stain remover bar! It gets everything out. You don't need to get rid of that top with the giant pasta stain - just get the right product to save it. Then, if all else fails, you could always use some fabric dye and just dye right over it.

Don't be afraid to pick up the needle and thread

This might be an obvious one, but when your clothing does give in to the wear and tear, try to fix it before throwing it aside! A small hole can easily be sewn up, a button put back on or a strap re attached. With Youtube and Google you can't use the excuse "I don't know how". Honestly, as long as you secure the thread when you start and finish, you'll be good.

Upcycle

We have so many posts on this! There are so many options when it comes to upcycling old clothing. It could be something as simple as cropping a top to making a scrunchie or tie dying your joggers to making a pom pom to decorate your Christmas presents! Click here to see our upcycle series.
