. The Top Gear crew decided to replace the last Stig (Ben Collins) who decided to unveil his identity and wanted to publish a book about his time on the show.
The BBC reportedly spent ?76,000 on a failed court attempt to stop his autobiography from being published!!
So last November the BBC held a secret audition for the new Stig on a farm in rural Britain. The potential candidates (undoubtedly carefully trained guard their secret identity!) wore a variety of coloured ´Stig´ suits including green, red, yellow and even pink!? . Then, last Sunday night the new Stig was unveiled in the new series of Top Gear and fans reckon the figure behind the wheel could well be a Woman Driver!
As the new Stig was hired in complete secrecy even show host Jeremy Clarkson claims that he doesn´t know who it is (male or female!)
The outspoken Jeremy (who branded former Stig Ben Collins ´Greedy´) said:
´The Stig comes up to my legs and makes Richard Hammond look like a giant. All the good racing drivers these days are very small.´ .. The new racer (currently rumoured to be German racing driver Sabine Schmitz) is certainly off to a good start, setting a new lap record of one minute 15 seconds in an Ariel Atom V8 in the new series. Wowza!
